On Thursday, the Federal Government announced its decision to temporarily close the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, with the closure scheduled from midnight on Saturday, October 21 to midnight on Sunday, October 22, to facilitate repair work.
In an official statement, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, who serves as the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, expressed the government’s commitment to initiating extensive rehabilitation efforts on the bridge. This will commence with addressing critical sections that require repairs.
Kesha conveyed on behalf of the Federal Government the intention to notify the general driving public of ongoing preparations for an extensive repair project on the Third Mainland Bridge.
“To alleviate the current inconvenience faced by commuters on the bridge, the Ministry will conduct interim repairs on the most severely damaged areas along the Adeniji-bound lane on Sunday, October 22. These actions will serve as a preparation step for the extensive repair project,” she explained.

She encouraged drivers to collaborate with traffic authorities by following the directed detours to ensure smooth traffic flow.
“Motorists are advised to consider utilizing alternative routes, if feasible, while the palliative repairs are underway. The Adeniji-bound section of the bridge will be inaccessible to traffic from Saturday, October 21, until Sunday, the 22nd, at midnight,” she explained.
