The Imo State Government has suggested that Hope Uzodinma, the country’s governor, may have been politically supported at the early hours of Saturday.
In a statement on Saturday, several hours after unknown gunmen caused the carnage, Declan Emelumba revealed that an investigation into the attack on the house of the governor in Omuma in the state’s Oru East government area was underway.
Emelumba reveally repelled attackers that were wrecked havoc by security personnel attached to Governor’s Residence, and cars stored in the structure.
The Commissioner has not revealed the number of casualties in a state which reported that some security personnel have died in the attack.
He said, however, that the State administration had tasked the safety agencies with the rapid detention of the alleged attacking sponsors and the armed fleeing gunmen.
The statement says, “This morning gallant security agents have repelled the assault on Imo State Governor Sen Hope Uzodimma’s Omuma country house.
‘With the tipper filled with used pneumas, a party of hoodlums with about 15 driving on a three-vehicle motorcycle, stormed the Governor’s country home in Omsuma, Oru East LGA at approximately 9 a.m. today and attempted to burn down the building.’
However, the assault was effectively repelled by vigilant security operatives at the House of the governor and the harm they planed to inflict was thus reduced to minim.
“A few casualties were reported in the crossfire that followed. Preliminary investigation indicates the political sponsorship of the failed attack.
“The government has ordered the security agencies concerned to speed up their investigations into the incident and to immediately arrest and bring sponsors and their agents to justice.
