Tinubu designates fresh Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) for Lagos, Rivers, and seven more areas.

On Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu named nine new Resident Electoral Commissioners for the Independent National Electoral Commission. They will serve a five-year term, pending Senate confirmation.

In a statement titled ‘President Tinubu appoints nine INEC resident electoral commissioners,’ the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, revealed their names: Mr. Isah Ehimeakne for Edo State, Mr. Bamidele Agbede for Ekiti State, Mr. Jani Bello for Gombe State, Dr. Taiye Ilayasu for Kwara State, and Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi for Lagos State. Additionally, there are Yahaya Bello for Nasarawa State, Prof. Mohammed Yalwa for Niger State, Dr. Anugbum Onuoha for Rivers State, and Abubakar Dambo for Zamfara State.

“These appointments on Wednesday were made through the authority granted to the Office of the President as outlined in Section 154 (1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, Amended) and Section 6 of the Electoral Act (2022),” noted Ngelale. Tinubu emphasized his expectation that the new appointees adhere to the utmost levels of professionalism and ethical behavior while carrying out their responsibilities. This aligns with his commitment to promoting a new and enduring benchmark for transparent, equitable, and conflict-free electoral practices in Nigeria.”
