The 10th Assembly aims to address the aspirations of Nigerians, according to Speaker Abbas.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has reaffirmed the dedication of the 10th House to actively address the needs of Nigerians.

Speaking on Tuesday during the presentation of the legislative agenda in Abuja, he emphasized that the agenda, named ‘The People’s House,’ is centered on the belief that lawmakers play a crucial role in ensuring the welfare of their constituents.

Representing Zaria Federal Constituency, Kaduna State, under the All Progressives Congress, the legislator acknowledged the substantial challenges facing Nigerians but expressed confidence in the administration led by President Bola Tinubu to effectively tackle these issues.

He further explained that the Legislative Agenda is crafted to align with the eight pillars of the Renewed Hope blueprint of the APC-led administration.

The outlined issues in the agenda encompass reinforcing good governance, advancing economic development, enhancing national security, reforming laws, promoting economic growth, developing the social sector, ensuring inclusion and an open parliament, influencing foreign policy and addressing climate change, and sustaining environmental well-being.

The commitment, he stated, is to establish an environment conducive to sustainable economic growth, utilizing legislative tools to generate employment opportunities, tackle poverty challenges, enhance infrastructure, ensure high-quality and affordable healthcare, and provide security for all Nigerians.

With that in mind, the Speaker urged fellow lawmakers to collaborate in implementing the agenda for the benefit of Nigerians. He appealed to his esteemed colleagues in the House to unite in realizing their shared vision for an improved Nigeria. The call was for tireless efforts to fulfill their mandate with integrity, diligence, and a profound sense of patriotism. The Speaker also expressed the intention to collaborate with Senate colleagues to drive and achieve the goals outlined in the agenda.

In response, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, praised the House for taking the lead in revealing its legislative agenda, assuring that the Senate’s version would align closely with that of the House.

“We are a unified nation with a shared destiny, a single president, and a unified legislative body. It is imperative that consensus and agreement prevail before any bill becomes law. Hence, there is no distinction between the House of Representatives and the Senate; we operate for a common purpose,” he emphasized.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, emphasized that a functional legislature is essential for any country aspiring to enjoy the benefits of democracy.
